YOUTH rugby is in safe hands after no fewer than three sets of siblings turned out for Helensburgh Rugby Club's junior sides recently.

Lomond Helensburgh under-18s made the short trip to Lenzie last weekend, and although the result went against the team, youth convenor Ian Smith said "the true spirit of the club shone through".

The side enjoyed the enviable position of three sets of brothers all featuring in the same finishing XV: under-18s captain Ruaridh (pictured above left) was joined by his brother Calum, while the brothers Bakker - Euan and Ryan (centre), stood alongside the McGinn pairing of Euan and Calum.

The unique line-up was made possible by both Calum and Calum being 16-years-old and the under-16s not having a fixture.

The siblings certainly went for bragging rights and the biggest brag belonged to Calum Hall who bagged himself a try on his 18s debut.

Meanwhile the under-16s side have already wrapped up competitive fixtures for the first half of the season with neither Lenzie nor Cumnock able to field sides for matches.

Agonizingly they came within minutes of a return trip to Murrayfield, drawing 15-15 against a very strong and much fancied George Heriot's.

Elsewhere the under-15s proved they are league contenders at home to Lenzie, with a clinical 38-0 home victory.

All eyes are on a league decider this coming Saturday at Ardencaple as they host Cumnock in the crucial showdown, with both teams on 18 points from seven games and unable to be separated, with identical records of five wins, one loss and one draw each. Kick off on December 7 is at 10am.

The under-14s continue to build and develop their squad under the skills of Mark Bone and James Silverthorne, and a mixed season has seen a blend of under-13s and 14s come together to enjoy the experience.

They also wrap up the first half of the season this weekend against Cumnock.

The club's youth teams continue to go from strength to strength and rely upon the support of parents, patrons and sponsors of the club.

One way that anyone with the club's interests at heart can add their support is by joining the club's monthly lottery draw.

This offers cash prizes of £250 each month with a special New Year draw prize of £400. Details of how to set up a monthly entry to the draw can be found at draw.ourclublotto.co.uk/ardencaple/.
