RHU Amateurs' Caledonian League team emerged victorious in the face of adversity after going a goal down in their game against Riverside at the weekend with a squad that was "down to the absolute bare bones".
Boss Gordon Brodie said his side were up against it before the first whistle even blew on Saturday, with Rhu missing 10 players and the match relocated to Hermitage Academy due to heavy overnight rain which made home ground Ardenconnel Park unplayable.
With some last-minute adjustments and recruits, the game went ahead - and Brodie was buzzing after his men pulled off a brilliant 2-1 win over their First Division rivals.
He said afterwards: "The boys were superb today despite the challenges with numbers.
"They dug in for each other and can be very proud of their afternoon's work."
Riverside started the quicker of the two teams despite Rhu trying to impose their style of play and it was the away side who took the lead from the penalty spot. Indeed, it stayed that way for the remainder of the first half.
A good half time team talk ensued and Rhu came out with the same determination that has come back to the team, equalising immediately after some great football saw the ball reach McCann to continue his decent goal scoring run with a bullet header.
The game ebbed and flowed in both directions and Riverside had some great opportunities to take the lead but some resolute defending and the woodwork saved the home side.
Fresh legs were needed and a couple of changes were required to get Rhu over the line, and it was one of the trialists on the day that scored an absolute screamer from the edge of the box to give the home side the three points and a well deserved, hard fought victory.
Brodie added: "The message was clear from the start of the game: to have success team work was required and a commitment to each other to fight for the jersey despite the recent challenges.
"Players played out of position and each and every player that pulled on the red jersey deserves enormous credit."
Rhu's Caley squad are away to Milton this Saturday.
Meanwhile, the club's under-19s also enjoyed a successful weekend by beating table-topping Larkhall Thistle 4-2 in the Challenge Trophy first round.
After a bright start and many missed chances in the first 15 minutes, the team found themselves 1-0 down when they failed to deal with a long ball.
Taylor Macdonald levelled five minutes later, however, from the edge of the box.
Unfortunately, Rhu again failed to deal with a corner and went into the break 2-1 down.
A few changes at half time saw the side move Charles Livingston into the back three which seemed to steady the ship.
Fifty minutes in Rhu equalised with Aaron Darnell heading in at the back post from a corner.
Neat work on the left hand side from Ross Wilson then found Macdonald inside of the box who made it 3-2, before Ross Fulton put the icing on the cake with the fourth, bending a free kick inside the keeper's left post.
Larkhall then found themselves down to 10 men when Mark O'Rourke bravely dived on to a through ball with the striker landing a late challenge on the keeper's face.
