RHU Colts' unbeaten league run finally came to an end at the weekend at the hands of an impressive Clydebank Red Star side.

The BOCA Championship squad - missing a few players from the 2-2 draw with Busby earlier in the month - fell to a defeat for the first time this season, losing 2-0 away from home on Saturday, November 9.

Manager Jamie Kjorstad was forced into a slight shuffle of the pack, however, those who were available were still in confident mood going into the game.

The first half was a good contest between the two teams as the game flowed in both directions, and while the best chances fell to the Rhu lads, they came to nothing as delays on the final shot at goal meant the keeper wasn’t troubled.

The visitors did have the ball in the net after half an hour but the referee decided that Jeffrey was offside as he broke the Clydebank back line.

The home side broke the deadlock within five minutes of the restart but in controversial circumstances.

As the ball was played up the far touchline the Rhu defence signalled to the match official that the ball had gone over the line, however, with the ref a good bit back from play the Clydebank winger played on and put a cross into the box where it was eventually fired into the net.

The home side, buoyed by the opener, pushed forward and the second goal followed 10 minutes later.

Rhu tried to get back into the game and created some clear chances but for the second week in a row they went the wrong side of the posts.

Boss Kjorstad was - not unexpectedly - disappointed with the result, which leaves his side in third position in the Glasgow Colleges FA First Division.

He said: "I felt that we let ourselves down considering how we have played up to this match.

"But I suppose if someone had told me before the start of the season that it would take 10 games before we would lose our first game I would have laughed at them.

"That being said it’s important now that we pick ourselves up and try and go on another run."

Squad: Young, Kjorstad, Adams, Jeffrey, Molloy, Burch, Molloy, Stillwell, Scullion, Court, Black, Bone, Tadlock, Moy, McKenna, Sinclair

Rhu's next game is away to Rosebank at Merklands Park in Kirkintilloch this Saturday, with kick off at 10am.

Meanwhile, the amateur club's Caledonian League team lost two late goals at the weekend and eventually succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at home to league leaders Bannockburn.

Rhu also announced on Saturday that Alan Campbell has stepped down from his role within the club.

A statement shared on social media said: "Alan has given everything in the last three years and will be a massive loss to everyone at the club.

"His professionalism and drive is infectious to everyone at Rhu and filling his boots will be a massive task.

"From everyone at the club, thank you Alan!"
