FOOTBALL may have fallen foul of the wet and windy forecast at the weekend but past and present players ensured there was plenty to shout about for Rhu Amateurs.

The club's Caledonian League team was meant to be playing Riverside AFC on Saturday but the inclement weather put paid to the planned fixture.

However, the conditions failed to dampen the spirits of those who turned out for Rhu's annual legends day, with Ardenconnel Park abuzz with former squad members and officials.

And although the attendees missed out on live match action to accompany the celebrations, Brodie maintained a positive outlook following a successful event.

"The legends of days gone by attended in great numbers along with the current squad, and they all shared a great afternoon reminiscing about their playing days as well as looking forward to the future.

"The league-winning team from 1982, led by their captain Tam McLaughlin, also paid tribute to one of our former players, Eccy Wilson, who sadly passed away last year."

"Ardenconnel is a very special place to play football and it was shown by the guys who remember their time there as the best of their playing career.

"I, along with the current squad, realise the huge importance of the club to so many people and we will strive to bring success back to this fine old club."

The loss brings the curtain down on the team's exploits for this season, one that "the lads can be very proud of", according to Rhu's social media accounts.

The new season starts in March 2025, and any new players interested in joining up are asked to contact Rhu Amateurs on Facebook.
