A FATHER and son duo from Helensburgh claimed silver medals at the recent pickleball national championships in Glasgow.
Voluntary association Pickleball Scotland held the 2024 Scottish Open between October 3 and 6 at Scotstoun Leisure Centre.
Andrew and Harry Gould competed in the Men's Doubles Open 2.5/3, and bounced back from an opening match defeat to the same team they would ultimately face in the final by winning their next three rounds.
The Goulds comfortably progressed from the semis after an 11-3 victory, however, their first round foes got the better of them again in the final as the pair were beaten 15-14 by Scots duo Ryan Gormley and Gordon Littlejohn in a hard-fought and exciting climax last Thursday.
Andrew was representing Runnymede Royals Ascot and Harry Glasgow West Scotstoun.
Meanwhile, Lucy Elliott, also from Helensburgh, picked up a silver medal of her own in the Women's Singles event, losing out to Katie Morris in the final on Thursday 15-2.
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the world and in Helensburgh there are two locations for those interested in taking it up.
Craighelen Tennis Club run sessions at Colgrain Primary School and Helensburgh Pickleball use Lomond School halls on a Sunday morning.
The sport is expected to rival badminton and tennis in popularity over the coming decades after it was revealed that participation across the country has grown by more than 10,000 per cent since 2018.
