NEARLY 100 golfers took part in the annual ladies’ open tri-am tournament at Cardross Golf Club.

The Hargan Trophy for the best scratch score with 168 went to Vicky Hendren (Cardross), Alyson McGinnigle (Douglas Park) and Caroline King (Clober), the third year in a row the same trio have won the prize.

The Harper Trophy for the best net score with 145 was secured by Lorraine Campbell (Cardross), Aileen Campbell (Glencorse) and Laura McGeachy (Haggs Castle). 

Second place on net scores were the Cardross pair of Lynne MacDonald and Rae Strang, playing with Monique McArdle (Dumbarton), on 146.

Third place net with 149 was Ann Shanks (Cardross) and the Dumbarton duo of Karen Haggerty and Rona Agnew, with the Skelmorlie trio of Gillian and Sophie Love and Grace Kennedy fourth on 150.

Nearest the pin prizes were offered for players with a handicap between 21-36; Anne Byiers of Erskine was nearest at the fifth hole, and at the third in two was Abby Stirling of Helensburgh.

Nearest the pin prizes for players with handicaps between 0-20 were won by Caroline King of Clober at the 12th, and in two at the 17th by Laura McGeachy of Haggs Castle.

Ninety-nine ladies took part in the tournament, which raised more than £850 for Pancreatic Cancer UK through a tombola and four-ball raffle.

The club’s lady captain, Mel Thomson, said: “We are grateful for the support of local businesses including Helensburgh Toyota, The Ginger Breadman, Ardardan Estate, Fearless Robin, Craigend Nursery, Lomond Clinic and The Flower Shop for their kind donations and help in making this a very successful day.
