A NEW season is under way down at Helensburgh Rugby Club…and the start of the league campaign couldn’t have gone any better for the Lomond and Helensburgh first XV.
A sizeable home support at Ardencaple was delighted as the hosts surged to an 81-7 win over Clydebank in their first West Division 2 fixture of the new campaign at Ardencaple on Saturday.
Unsurprisingly the win took L&H to the top of the standings on points difference after the first round of matches, with Strathendrick, Wigtownshire and Carrick also recording bonus point victories on day one.
Saturday’s other results were as follows: Birkmyre 5-31 Wigtownshire; Cumbernauld 20-15 Irvine; Strathendrick 56-12 Waysiders/Drumpellier; Uddingston 22-38 Carrick.
Next up for the L&H first team is a trip to Ayrshire this Saturday, August 31, to take on newly-crowned Division 3 champions and last season’s National Bowl winners, Irvine. Kick-off at Marress is at 3pm.
L&H’s second XV have to wait another week for their competitive season to get under way in West Reserve Division 2, against their Strathendrick counterparts on Saturday, September 7.
