ENTRIES are open now for a brand new trail race taking place in and around Helensburgh next month.
The Trident 10K event, organised by Helensburgh Amateur Athletics Club, will be held on Saturday, September 14.
The course covers a challenging but beautiful off-road route, taking in views over The Clyde, Arrochar Alps, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs.
Starting from Helensburgh Rugby Club at 11am, and finishing in the same place, the Trident 10k route is a trail and dirt road run beginning and ending in the Duchess Woods before heading uphill towards the Highlandman’s Road and in the direction of – though not quite as high as – Tom na h-Airidh.
A spokesperson for the organisers said: "The loop covers a distance of approximately 10k and has an elevation gain of 381m, or 1,250 feet.
"It's not easy but it's worth it!"
The Trident 10k is now open to runners aged 17 years or older.
Entry is limited to 80 places, and as this article was published more than a quarter had already been snapped up.
To enter go to entrycentral.com and enter ‘Trident’ in the search box.
The event will also include a junior race, 'The Duchess Dash', over a 4km trail based on two laps of the Duchess Woods.
The junior race is open to young runners aged 12-17 years old and entries can be submitted on the day.
As well as fun prizes and spot prizes for both the adult and junior events, HAAC’s famous home baking will be on hand to help all the runners refuel afterwards.
