A HELENSBURGH school pupil has been named a sports champion after going for gold at a national event.
Lomond School student Ethan Fullarton had an exceptional performance at the West District Track and Field Championships as well as the National Outdoor Open.
With around 1,300 athletes on start-lists, the events, which took place in Inverness, Kilmarnock and Grangemouth, saw hard-working athletes chase their personal best performances.
On Saturday, May 11, he surpassed his personal bests in three events whilst securing two gold and one silver medal.
Representing Victoria Park City of Glasgow, the 12-year-old is now the West of Scotland Under 13 champion in the 100 metres and long jump, and he earned a silver medal in shot put at the event he attended in Kilmarnock.
Ethan clinched the gold in the 100m with a time of 13.95 seconds, having qualified with a personal best of 13.77 seconds in the heats.
He also set a new personal best in the long jump, covering a distance of 4 metres 77cm, which is 30cm longer than his prior best.
Additionally, he secured silver in shot put with a throw of 8.30 metres, surpassing his previous best by over a metre.
Proud father Campbell Fullarton said: “His mother and I are extremely proud. Since Ethan joined the Victoria Park City of Glasgow Club last year, he has put in tremendous effort.
"It's truly rewarding to witness his dedication and hard work paying off.
"These results came as a pleasant surprise, especially considering the calibre of athletes involved. We are overjoyed for him."
