A newly formed Helensburgh women’s football team gave a “fantastic performance” at their first ever tournament last week.
Ardencaple FC's ladies recorded three wins at a competition held at the Toryglen Regional Football Centre in the shadow of Hampden Park.
A representative for the team said: “The team put in a fantastic performance, with wins against Glasgow Legends, Largs, and Bathgate Thistle, and only narrowly lost on sudden death penalties against Glasgow Athena in the semi-final.
“An amazing result for their first tournament.
“A huge thanks to Ardencaple Football Club and the SFA for their support in getting the ladies’ section established and to The Ginger Breadman in Helensburgh for their generosity in sponsoring the team strip.”
Looking ahead, in addition to the training sessions, the team will be organising friendly matches against other local recreational women’s teams and are keen to attend more tournaments throughout 2024.
The group launched in September 2023 with just a few players, but has now grown to become a squad of 25 regulars who train twice a week.
The team trains twice a week at Hermitage Academy on Mondays from 8.30pm to 9.30pm and Fridays from 6pm to 9.15pm.
Players of all ages and abilities are welcome, and anyone interested in joining can contact Evie Macdonald on 07967 602045 to find out more information.
