RHU Amateurs' Caledonian League squad gave “one of the best performances of the season” to secure their third win in a row.
The Rhu first team travelled to Stirling to play Riverside AFC on Saturday, February 24 and returned home with three points after they triumphed 3-0.
The victory came despite several members of the squad being sidelined by injuries and other commitments, meaning a squad of only 12 players made the trip.
After successive 4-0 home wins over Callander Thistle and Alva, Rhu went into the game in positive mood despite their enforced squad changes - and their positive approach paid off as they controlled the game for long spells.
The first goal came midway through the first half when the ball broke to top scorer Jamie Paterson on the edge of the box with the half time result coming in at 1-0 to Rhu.
The second half followed much the same pattern as the first, with Rhu controlling the game and Paterson extending their lead with the visitors' second goal.
Rhu then made their only substitution and it proved to be decisive as the returning Karl Johansson nodded home from close range to round off the scoring, completing a home-and-away double against a Riverside team who they'd beaten 5-2 at Ardenconnel Park on the opening day of the season.
Coach Gordon Brodie said: “All the boys came together today and gave the Rhu one of the best performances of the season and yet another clean sheet for the highly impressive Kyle Baird and the boys in front of him.
“Coach Alan Campbell described this as one of the best team performances since we came on board - and very few can argue with that.”
This Saturday, March 2, Rhu are on the road again, this time travelling to Glasgow's west end to play Westerlands AFC.
Meanwhile, it was a tougher day at the office for Rhu Colts' Saturday morning squad as they were knocked out of the Glasgow Colleges FA Cup after a 4-0 defeat to Pollok United at Nethercraigs.
Without four of the players who had helped beat Glasgow Ansar the previous week, Rhu knew a disciplined performance would be required - and despite the end result they can say that they delivered that.
Pollok opened the scoring six minutes in but not before the visitors had nearly scored themselves with Sinclair just having the ball taken away from him with a last gasp tackle.
Despite losing the goal so early the boys stuck to their task and although the home side were the ones pushing forward, keeper Stevie Lewis wasn’t troubled that much.
Chances did fall the way of the Rhu team, with Shields and Sinclair both one-on-one with the Pollok keeper, but on both occasions the chances failed to get the visitors on the scoresheet.
After thirty minutes the home side increased their lead after some good play in the right led to an easy tap in at the far post.
Just before the half came to an end Young smacked an effort just inches past the post from 25 yards out which would have been a good reward for the determination shown by the boys.
The second half continued in much the same vein as the first, with the home side having lots of the ball but finding it difficult to break down the visitors.
In fact, it was only a piece of good fortune that brought them their third goal, when a long ball was challenged between the striker and Adams, with the ball ending up trapped between both players and as it fell it was the striker who reacted fastest to poke the ball behind Lewis.
The fourth and final Pollok goal came from the penalty spot when a clearance came off the arm of Sinclair who can think himself a tad unlucky.
Just before the end Caldow almost got one back for the Rhu lads but his header went narrowly past the far post.
Manager Jamie Kjorstad said: "It was a far from disappointing performance against one of the top teams in the league and said hopefully the boys will not be to downhearted at the result.
"It should be a learning experience for them."
Squad: Lewis, Kjorstad, Caldow, Adams, Scullion, Shield, Moy, Brown, Laird, Young, Sinclair, Campbell, McKenna, Court, Dawson, Molloy.
This Saturday, March 4, Rhu Colts are back on the road, this time to face the Cambuslang Football Academy, with a 10am kick-off.
