Looking to not only support the development of their young athletes but to also instil a sense of citizenship and community, Helensburgh Athletic Club have been putting as much effort into raising funds for local charities as they normally do on the track.
And, with this ethos in mind, the club’s junior section recently presented the proceeds from their winter raffle to two local worthy causes - Jean’s Bothy and Helensburgh and Lomond Carers.
Organised by junior club captain Sophie Michie, the juniors went on to raise more than £300 at their charity raffle at their awards night back in December, with the club using a small portion of the funds to purchase much-needed equipment for the juniors before splitting £260 between the two deserving charities.

A HAAC spokesperson said: “The club would like to thank local companies for donating prizes.
“Craigend Nursery donated a Christmas tree, Glasgow Airport offered up an upper deck lounge pass, Ardardan Farm Shop and Tearoom contributed an afternoon tea, Wilkies donated a Superdry backpack, Start Fitness provided a signed photo of international athletes and Humbles, Linda Macdonald Jewellery, Riva Restaurant and Masala Twist kindly donated vouchers.
“We’d also like to thank junior club captain Sophie Michie for organising the raffle, and to all club members and parents for their support in buying tickets.”
