RISING rally star Fraser Anderson was back on the top step of the podium at the latest event in the Junior 1000 Ecosse Championship – the Granite Rally at Leuchars in Fife.
The Helensburgh teenager had a point to prove after a mistake by the marshals at the previous event, at Condor in Arbroath, robbed him of victory – and he responded to that setback in some style, as he and co-driver Sinclair Young took the nippy Citroen C1 to a convincing win, more than 42 seconds clear of their nearest challengers.
The win wasn’t achieved without a fight, after troubles beneath the bonnet left Anderson, currently studying at West College Scotland in Clydebank, sitting third at the end of the first two stages - but with the technical gremlins pacified, he was utterly dominant in stages three and four, opening up a commanding lead which he would only increase over the last five stages of the event.
Cameron Davidson, driving alongside Ian McRae, continued his rise to prominence – having not even had a fully functioning car just hours before the Condor event, he has now clocked up two podium finishes in a row, taking second place at Leuchars in his Volkswagen Up ahead of Jack Hall and Robin Nicolson (Toyota Yaris), who edged out Justin Gunning and Tom Middlemiss for third.

“It was a good, calm, mature drive, and many thanks to his co-driver Sinclair Young and our service mechanic Colin Mitchell.
“Again thanks to our sponsors Baxter & Gillespie Ltd, Artex, AkzoNoble, HBR Dumbarton and Kenneth Brown Motor Engineers.”
Next up in the Challenge series it’s back to Fife, this time to Crail, for round four of the championship, to be contested on Saturday, June 15.
