LUSS boxer Hannah Rankin will be back in the ring on home soil in the new year.

The former Hermitage Academy pupil will fight an as-yet-unnamed opponent as part of a Burns Supper event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow on January 25.

It’ll be Rankin’s first fight since her narrow points defeat to double world champion Claressa Shields in Kansas last month – and her first bout in Scotland since June, when she secured the vacant World Boxing Council silver female middleweight title by defeating Finland’s Sanna Turunen at the Lagoon Leisure Centre in Paisley.

Promoters Kynoch Boxing unveiled details this week of a bill which also features Ahmed Ibrahim, Neil McCubbin and a contest for the Scottish super-welterweight title between Stefan Sanderson and Craig Kelly.

Rankin’s last appearance at the Crowne Plaza was in January 2018 when she defeated Klaudia Vigh on a technical knock-out in her first fight in Scotland – though an awful lot has happened since then, including a debut contest in the USA back in August against Alicia Napoleon and a first appearance on live TV.

Revealing details of next month’s fight night on her Instagram account, Rankin – who will be back in Scotland over Christmas, spending time with her family on the Luss hill farm where she grew up – said: “Great to finally be boxing in front of a home crowd!

Tickets will go quick so if you’re looking for something special for Christmas presents or just a great way to spend Burns Night get in touch!”

Tickets for the event are available via any of the boxers on the bill or by emailing sam@kynoch-boxing.com.
