HELENSBURGH Tennis Club’s ladies’ second vets’ team secured the Division 4 title with a 4-2 win over Hillhead. The team’s only defeat during the season was to Titwood who finished two points behind them.
First couple Liz Wylie and Gay Black had to dig deep in their opening set before eventually winning their match 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-2. Second couple Carol Bews and Morag Cawley also won 6-3, 7-5, 3-6 to secure the overall win and the title.
In their final match of the season the ladies’ fourth vets’ team beat Titwood 5-1, with Fiona MacLaren and Anne Esson winning 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 and Jane Carroll and Barbara Gillies triumphing 7-6, 6-2, 3-6.
The men’s first vets’ team play their final match this week against Newlands knowing a decisive win will keep them in the division.
Junior coaching starts next week with red and orange classes on Monday and orange, green and yellow classes on Wednesday. Details can be found at www.tennishelensburgh.org.uk.
