When the results of the General Election came in, I was delighted to see that Brendan O’Hara was once again elected as MP for Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber, and by over 6,000 votes.

Many constituents in Helensburgh will be aware that I have been trying for over a year to have the ghastly looking silver bins removed from the towns streets.

Good news! Council officers have now been instructed to put together a report containing costs and timescales for removing the silver bins, and for the report to be presented at the next councillors area committee meeting.

The rail union's 'work to rule (no overtime / rest day working)' could affect passengers travelling to stations to Glasgow and Edinburgh with the likelihood of delayed or cancelled trains, and some Edinburgh trains end at Bathgate.

I would like to thank Mark (the council landscape gardener) the Community Council and their helpers for all of their hard work in Colquhoun Square, and how well the flower beds, grass and plants are looking.

I was pleased to hear that the Waverley will be undertaking a sail past Helensburgh Pier on the August 18.

Hopefully in the near future she will once again be able to berth at Helensburgh Pier.
