The Advertiser has invited General Election candidates standing to represent Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber to share their views on key topics to the area.

This week, Scottish Conservative candidate Amanda Hampsey writes about her priorities for Helensburgh and Lomond.

Helensburgh and Lomond has a rich local history and it is one that I would seek to enhance as your MP.

Having been brought up in Argyll and raising my family here, I know first-hand the issues that matter to you.

If fortunate enough to be elected as your MP, I would advocate for urgent improvements to be made to the lifeline ferry services that our communities rely on.

Additionally, I would push the SNP to finally complete the upgrades that are so desperately needed on the crucial Rest and Be Thankful to finally make it fit for purpose.

Our farmers, crofters and fishermen are at the heart of our communities, and I will always stand up for them. The SNP’s reckless proposals for Highly Protected Marine Areas must never be brought back in any shape, and our farmers continue to be neglected in the form of the SNP’s wafer-thin Agriculture Bill.

Helensburgh’s strong naval links are something I will be unwavering in my support of. We are rightly proud of our military community and the thousands of jobs our defence sector provides locally.

These bases are also vital for our national security in an increasingly dangerous world, which is why I will always stand up in support of our nuclear deterrent.

I will push for more investment in our local economy having already secured £20 million worth of UK Government levelling up funding.

Moreover, I am delighted a further £20 Million in levelling up funding has been earmarked by my party for Helensburgh.

A vote for me is a vote for a local champion as your MP, rather than a SNP MP only protesting on independence.
