The Advertiser has invited General Election candidates standing to represent Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber to share their views on key topics to the area.

This week, Reform UK candidate Melanie Hurst writes about her priorities for Helensburgh and Lomond.

I have been asked what my priorities for the area are.

It’s a strange question because it really doesn’t matter what my priorities are: it is about your priorities in Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber. That is what really matters.

We have all had enough of our politicians telling us what our priorities are, what we should think or what we need – it’s time for change.

Your priorities are my priorities. I will represent your priorities in Westminster.

I have listened to you and you have told me what you need, that your priorities are access to healthcare, in particular dental and hospital services, better transport – with the ferry fiasco and A83 Rest and Be Thankful upgrade featuring prominently, affordable housing for local people and an end to the cost-of-living crisis.

You have also told me what you want. You want change, you are fed up, sick of daily scandals, you just want politicians to do their job. It’s not a big ask.

If elected, I will serve my constituents, prioritising your needs, raising the profile of Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber in Westminster.

I will work for you, not the system, lobbying Holyrood to ensure the people of Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber are heard loud and clear.

Reform UK is the only party promising to reduce taxes to stimulate much needed growth and ease the cost-of-living and housing crises to deliver a much needed economic boost for Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber.
