Liberal Democrats will invest in infrastructure, innovation and skills to create good jobs and prosperity while tackling the climate emergency.

We will help people with the cost of living and their energy bills by implementing a windfall tax on the profits of large oil and gas producers and traders and using the money raised to insulate homes.

We will make taxes fairer, ensuring that tax burdens don’t fall disproportionately on low earners.

We will reverse the Conservatives’ tax cuts for big banks, give taxpayers real value for money by clamping down on tax avoidance and evasion, and giving HMRC more resources to properly tackle tax fraud, which has cost the taxpayer billions.

Climate change is the biggest threat to human existence. We urgently need to limit temperature rises to 1.5 degrees Centigrade, or we will face irreversible climate change which will cause catastrophic land loss and make parts of our planet inhabitable.

Our economy needs to change to cut carbon emissions. If done successfully this will create tens of thousands of skilled jobs and make the UK a world leader in new green technologies.

We will invest significantly in renewable power so that 80% of the UK’s electricity is generated from renewables by 2030. Our aim is to cut greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2045.

We will provide free home insulation for low-income homes and generous tax incentives for other households to reduce energy consumption, emissions, fuel bills and reliance on gas, so helping to end fuel poverty.
