IT wouldn't be a Scottish Christmas without... rain.

So the Rhu Christmas lights switch-on at the Village Green was a damp affair, but that didn't dampen (sorry) the enthusiasm of crowds.

Rhu and Shandon Church supplied hot chocolate, and The Rhu Inn offered soup and mulled wine - all for a donation towards the church's steeple fund.

Rhu Primary had a stall with the parents running a tombola in support of the school.

Tartan Harmony sang to open the Friday evening festivities before two P7 pupils switched on the lights.

Leah Muir, an up-and-coming singer, then entertained everyone, followed by disco music to keep the crowds entertained - and warm.

Arnold Bretman, one of the organisers, thanked everyone for attending and helping make the event happen.

He told the Advertiser: "It was a very well attended and supported event despite the weather.

"The event could not have gone ahead without the support of John Fraser of DCF Joiners and Builders Ltd who supplied the safety fence, and by the Anderson Family who provided the generator.

"Thank you to the local community for coming out."
