A CONTEST to find artists of all ages to celebrate marine life is open to entries.

Art for the Ocean is aiming to raise awareness about ocean conservation and protecting marine ecosystems.

Michael Girvan, from Helensburgh, co-founded the Ocean Rights Coalition Team and said the competition was inspired by a UN summit in New York last year about plastic pollution and ocean rights.

He said: "Art for The Ocean celebrates the creativity of individuals from all walks of life.

"Whether you're an experienced artist at 70, a 14-year-old student photographer, or a passionate 30 something novice, this competition provides a chance to showcase your work and contribute your expression as a voice, to an important cause.

"Engaging in this initiative not only enriches your artistic journey but also aligns your passion with a purpose, making a positive impact in raising awareness on the health of our ocean.

"Art is vital for raising awareness of marine environmental issues because it emotionally connects with audiences, making complex topics more relatable and accessible.

"Through storytelling and visual representation, art inspires action and advocacy, empowering individuals to engage in ocean conservation efforts.

"This initiative encourages interdisciplinary learning, combining art with environmental science, and fostering critical thinking about global marine environmental challenges and perspectives.

"Art for The Ocean is a unique opportunity for people of all ages to engage in the vital subject of ocean conservation through a fun and creative medium of expression."

Drawings, paintings or photos are all open for submission with cash prices, an exhibit of finalists and seats at an Ocean Gala.
