HUNDREDS of people have already shared their views on the future of Helensburgh to inform the next decade of plans.

Anyone who lives, works or visits the town is able to take the Vision for Helensburgh survey that will help write a local place plan (LPP).

Helensburgh Community Council (HCC) is running the questionnaire to pen the LPP that Argyll and Bute Council must consider when they write the next local development plan on what goes where in the town.

The survey is highlighting what residents and visitors value about the town and what they'd like to see changed.

The deadline is approaching to fill out the survey and as many people as possible are needed to take part.

HCC said housing was a particular focus of the hundreds of people who had taken the survey.

They told the Advertiser: "Many participants have called for more affordable homes to buy or rent, especially for first-time buyers and downsizers.

"Others have noted that while new housing developments are welcome, there’s a need for smaller, energy-efficient homes that better reflect the needs of the community.

"Local shops have also been a big talking point. Helensburgh’s independent businesses are a source of pride, but many respondents have highlighted the need for more variety, including affordable clothing and shoe shops.

"Others have raised concerns about empty storefronts on the high street, suggesting that these spaces could be revitalised to bring new life to the town."

Transport and connectivity were also up for discussion, with calls for safer and better connected routes between Helensburgh and nearby villages.

And parking remains a big issue and a desire for better public transport options.

Another theme of responses was the environment. They appreciated spaces such as Hermitage Park and Duchess Wood, but also wanted better maintained paths, more seating and more wildflower spaces.

There have also been calls for more solar panels and eco-friendly heating in the area.

HCC said: "The LPP isn’t just a survey; it’s a chance for residents to shape how Helensburgh develops over the coming years.

"From housing and green spaces to transport and community facilities, the feedback collected will inform priorities and strategies to ensure the town continues to thrive.

"By participating, residents can make sure their voices are heard and their needs are reflected in plans for the future."

Life-long and new residents are all invited to take part, as well as visitors or those who work locally but live elsewhere.

HCC added: "The survey is open to anyone who lives, works, or spends time in the town. Every response helps build a clearer picture of what the community wants for Helensburgh.

"Once the survey closes, the results will be reviewed, and the key findings will form the foundation of Helensburgh’s Local Place Plan.

"This plan will guide decisions on everything from housing and transport to environmental sustainability and community services.

"Helensburgh Community Council extends its thanks to everyone who has already participated. For those who haven’t yet taken part, this is your chance to shape the future of Helensburgh - don’t let it pass you by."
