WORK will start soon on the next stage of a new walking and cycling route on the Peninsula.
Argyll and Bute Council said the Rosneath Active Travel Route will see a path extend from Argyll Road to Clachan Burn in the village.
It will add to the existing efforts on the route with £259,900 in cash from the Transport Scotland Active Travel Infrastructure Fund to the local authority.
Argyll Community Housing Association agreed to the route crossing over a large grass area they own.
A path between Argyll Road and Builders Merchants has been constructed, and concept design from there to the Castle Caravan Park junction took place earlier this year.
The three paths will eventually link up to allow people to walk, cycle and wheel the full route.
The council’s policy lead for roads and infrastructure services, Councillor John Armour, said: “The public has been campaigning for a safe walking and cycling path along this route for many years, so I’m delighted that things are moving forward and we are now in a position to start work.
“We want to make it easier for people to walk, wheel and cycle in and around Rosneath, and this project will help them do that.
"Not only that, but it will also help to reduce emissions and create a climate friendly Argyll and Bute by encouraging people to use their car less, where possible.”
