A HELENSBURGH politician has shown her backing to Armed Forces veterans ahead of Remembrance Day.

MSP Jackie Baillie showed her support for veterans by backing the launch of Poppyscotland’s 2024 appeal.

The politician joined presiding officer Alison Johnson and Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar in supporting the event at the Scottish Parliament.

Poppyscotland raises funds to support veterans and armed forces personnel in Scotland.

Earlier this month, military and civilian personnel from HM Naval Base Clyde came together to help launch this year’s Poppy Scotland appeal.

The first poppies went on sale at Faslane’s HMS Neptune Supermess on Wednesday, October 30 with base workers lining up to support the launch.

Around four million poppies are distributed in Scotland by 10,000 volunteers each year.

The money raised by the appeal goes towards providing tailored support and funding to thousands of servicemen and women.

The funds also support vital advice, employment, mobility, respite, housing, and mental health services.

Helensburgh and Lomond MSP Jackie said: “I was delighted to lend my support to the launch of Poppyscotland’s 2024 appeal.

“The organisation does so much to support forces personnel and provides lifeline services to those who have served, are still serving and their families.

“I am only too happy to back the work of Poppyscotland, in tribute to all those who have given their lives in the service of our country.”

The annual poppy appeal takes place ahead of Remembrance Sunday events, which offer a national reminder of those who have served and sacrificed for the nation.
