PLANS for a new activity hub and other facilities on the shores of Loch Fyne have been given the go-ahead by council officers.

The Tarbert (Loch Fyne) Harbour Authority first submitted the proposal, which included a new gangway and mooring pontoons, to Argyll and Bute Council in 2022.

The plans are for a site opposite the Harbour Master’s Office on Garval Road in Tarbert.

Concerns were initially raised about the development being in a flood risk area, but this was amended to no objections later in 2024.

No representations, expressing either support or objection, were received from the public by the authority and planning permission has now been granted.

A council planning officer said in a handling report: “The proposed expansion of facilities at the marina waterfront is considered to increase opportunities for activities for visitors and the public, which will have social and economic benefits for the local community and local businesses.

“In terms of its siting, scale and design, the proposed development would not have any detrimental visual impact within the landscape, conservation area, nearby listed buildings or the setting of the castle/scheduled monument.

“The proposal does not dominate or detract from its setting within the wider landscape/townscape. In the context of the wider scheme, it would positively contribute to the tourism economy and directly and indirectly support other businesses within Tarbert locally and the wider area.”

The officer added: “The site is located on the banks of East Loch Tarbert, on the east side of Garval Road. The application is for the erection of a new activity hub, as well as the installation of a new gangway, mooring pontoons and accessible launch and hoist, steps to access foreshore and alterations to foreshore.”
