A SERIAL abuser with a history of attacking partners across Helensburgh and beyond has pleaded guilty to another crime.

Company director Gary Cairns admitted trying to wake his partner and biting her on the upper arm.

The 30-year-old then followed the woman into another bedroom and threw a glass of water over her.

Cairns, of Alexandria, snatched her mobile phone and threw it at her face.

He went on throw his terrified partner to the ground and grabbed her neck before she was able to escape.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court on October 30, he pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman to her injury at a property in Gartcosh, North Lanarkshire, on February 5 last year.

The serial domestic abuser was banned in 2023 from having contact with two former partners for a decade after inflicting horrific abuse. This included holding a woman's head under hot water and choking her in Helensburgh and elsewhere.

The director of G-Tec Fire & Security Ltd narrowly avoided jail for the previous domestic abuse and remains on bail pending sentencing in Glasgow.

The court this week heard how Cairns and his partner had been in a relationship for 18 months.

They had been out for dinner and drinks earlier that night in Glasgow city centre.

His partner went home to bed and left Cairns in the city centre.

Around 2am, Cairns attended her property while heavily intoxicated.

Prosecutor Jessica McGowan said: "Cairns went into her bedroom and was trying to rouse her.

"He attempted to grab her attention by biting her on the upper arm."

The woman told Cairns to leave her alone and she went to another bedroom to go to sleep.

Miss McGowan said: "Cairns entered the bedroom and threw a glass of water over while she tried to get to sleep again."

His partner told him to leave her alone or she would call the police.

He then grabbed her phone from her hand and threw it at her.

The prosecutor said: "It struck her face causing an injury to her lip.

"He then pushed her to the ground then grabbed her by the neck."

The terrified victim was able to remove herself and dialled 999.

Cairns fled the scene before officers arrived.

He handed himself into a police station three days later.

Paul Sweeney, defending, told the court that Cairns has previous convictions for similar offending which included a matter against his ex.

The lawyer said: "He is self-employed at G-Tec Fire & Security which fits CCTV, data firewalls and entry systems.

"He is taking steps to address his pattern of offending."

Sentence was deferred on the dad-of-one until December by Sheriff Joan Kerr who granted Cairns bail meantime.

At Dumbarton Sheriff Court last year, Sheriff Maxwell Hendry slammed the abuser for "bullying", "demeaning" and "violent behaviour towards women".

Attacks on one partner were at properties in Helensburgh, Alexandria, the George Hotel in Inveraray and elsewhere.

The second woman was attacked in Alexandria in 2021.
