A YOUNG Helensburgh scooter champ and his family are celebrating being one of the best in Britain.

Lleyton Crawford came second in the UK for the 12 and under novice category at the recent Adrenaline Alley competition in Corby.

The 10-year-old started riding when he was just five and a half, and is now wowing crowds with his tricks.

He started at Unit 23 in Dumbarton as well as using Helensburgh skate park before it was removed. He now uses both, with Helensburgh great for smaller tricks and in good weather, and Unit 23 for the big ones.

The P6 pupil at Colgrain Primary told the Advertiser: "I have been scooting for about five years now and just love the feeling of landing new tricks and just the community as a whole.

"I have just not long arrived back from Adrenaline Alley where I managed to come second in the 12 and under which is the biggest competition in Britain. I'm now second in the UK."

Lleyton has previously come first in the Scootish Open, first in the Rampyard 10 and under intermediate, and first in the Dogg 2024 13 and under.

Proud dad Stewart is helping organise the Scootish Open next April that will be open to all ages and abilities.

He said: "He was one of the youngest riders at 10 so the future is bright.

"Hopefully we can retain the Helensburgh skate park as it gives the younger riders a chance to develop their skills as well as help with the social aspect.

"Helensburgh really needs something for the younger generation and it's a great location.

"Myself and two others will be also set to announce the second 'Scootish Open' in April 2025 in Unit 23 skate park in Dumbarton.

"We look forward to seeing all the local riders participating as well as seeing the likes of five times world champion Jordon Clark attending the event."
