PLANS have been revealed for a bakery premises to be installed at a vacant retail unit on Bute.
The Port Bannatyne Development Trust has submitted plans to Argyll and Bute Council for the facility at 36 Marine Road in the village.
It is claimed by the applicant that the proposed bakery “may help to stimulate other activity” locally, while providing bakery products prepared on the premises.
A decision from the authority’s planning officers is expected by early December, with the public now able to submit comments.
In a questionnaire to the council, the applicant said: “The proposed alterations will bring back into use an abandoned retail unit, providing for sale products prepared on the premises.
“The proposed alterations will provide for sale bakery products not currently available in Port Bannatyne. The premises are served by a bus route on Marine Road.
“The existing premises have fallen out of use. The proposed use helps to retain the street frontage. It may help to stimulate other activity in Port Bannatyne.
“Building materials will be purchased from builder’s merchants where possible. Some fittings may be recycled or reprovisioned if appropriate.
“The open plan customer area may be adapted over time. Commercial refuse bins and recycling bins are to be on site.”
Plans submitted as part of the application show that the bid is for the premises on the corner of Marine Road and Quay Street.
