A BUSY autumn of activities is planned at Helensburgh Community Hub, organisers have announced.

From regular sessions on staying healthy and active, to book launches, the East Princes Street hub has a calendar to suit all tastes.

Gentle movement sessions suitable for all abilities are starting on Mondays and Tuesdays. They are open to all and free of charge.

Moving Meditation, which is based on Qigong and involves gentle movement and breathing, is on Mondays from 5.30 to 6.30pm. Meanwhile, community yoga sessions with teacher Stephen Brandon will start on Tuesday, October 15 from 5pm to 6.15pm and run to December 3.

Hub development manager Gill Simpson said: “We are keen to offer activities that are easy to access and help people’s health and wellbeing.

"There is no doubt that doing these kinds of gentle movement and breathing classes can help you feel better and sleep better so why not come along and give it a go?

“We also hope that by coming along people can connect with each other and see what else is going on in the Hub.”

The Hub is also hosting two book events this autumn.

On Saturday, October 12 Cardross-based author Maureen Cullen is launching her debut novel Kitten Heel.

The novel is about family life in Dumbarton in the 1960s. The launch starts at 2pm and will feature readings from the novel, Q and A with Maureen and book signings.

Then in November to celebrate St Andrew’s Day the Hub is hosting a talk about peat and whisky – accompanied by a wee dram.

Author Mike Billet discusses his book Peat and Whisky: The Unbreakable Bond on Friday 29 November at 7pm, Tickets are priced £10 and include a Bruichladdich dram or Botanist gin (soft drink alternatives are also available). Booking is on Eventbrite, search for Peat and Whisky.
