A VILLAGE sailing club in Helensburgh and Lomond is set to benefit from a fresh funding boost of £100,000.
Cove Sailing Club is one of 10 projects across the country to receive investment from sportscotland to develop their facilities or create a new home for sport and physical activity.
The club will receive the money towards the cost of a new clubhouse. The plans will see the club’s existing facility, which is no longer fit for purpose, replaced with a new purpose-built clubhouse.
The new facility will include changing rooms, which the club don’t currently have, a classroom, catering facilities and appropriate storage. The venue will also be made fully accessible.
The investment will allow the club to pursue its aims of increasing its membership and introducing new audiences to sports such as sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding and other water-based activities.
The cash pot sees much-needed funding for rural communities, areas of deprivation, and for projects designed to make sport more accessible and inclusive. The investment has been made possible thanks to National Lottery players, who raise £30 million each week for good causes across the UK.
Forbes Dunlop, chief executive of sportscotland, said: “It is inspiring to see the number of projects looking to improve opportunities for sport and physical activity in the latest round of Sport Facilities Funding.
“We know that sport and physical activity have an important role to play in bringing communities together and building resilience. Thanks to the continued commitment of our local partners more people will have an opportunity to become physically active and feel part of their local community.
“Cove Sailing Club has demonstrated a real commitment to ensuring that more people in Argyll and Bute will have an opportunity to become physically active and connected to their local community."
Welcoming the investment, Cove Sailing Club development lead, Sarah Robinson-Frood, said: "Cove Sailing Club is delighted to receive funding from sportscotland, which will be instrumental in the development of our new clubhouse.
"This facility will not only enhance the experience for our members but also serve as a valuable resource for the local community.
“The new clubhouse will provide a welcoming space for events, training, and social gatherings, strengthening our ties within the community and offering even greater opportunities for people of all ages to engage with sailing and water sports."
