A HELENSBURGH lout who was injured in a machete attack days before being caught with a weapon and assaulting a police officer has been jailed for almost three years.
Paul Wright previously pleaded guilty to a string of offences stemming from an incident in the town late last year.
The 38-year-old, who was noted in court papers as an inmate at Greenock prison, admitted to having an offensive weapon in a public place without a reasonable excuse or lawful authority on December 4 at Williamson Drive.
After being arrested, Wright hurled racist abuse and spat at a police sergeant, narrowly avoiding her.
Later that evening, whilst at Clydebank police office, he behaved in a threatening and abusive manner causing fear and alarm by uttering obscene remarks, including "F**k you big robo cop" and "baldy b******s".
He had been on two bail orders at the time, one of them issued just three days before his Williamson Drive crimes.
Wright's co-accused, 22-year-old Sean Haughie, admitted his role in the same incident.
Just days earlier, Wright was attacked with a machete leaving him with a chip on his skull.
The man responsible, Connor Taylor, pleaded guilty to the machete attack at a separate hearing and was also sentenced last week.
The Advertiser previously reported that the entire incident was caught on a Ring doorbell camera.
A hearing in August was told that at 6.40pm Wright and Haughie were seen walking out the garden path of a property in the street.
A woman could be heard shouting both of their names.
Wright entered and then left the path carrying what appeared to be a large wooden stick. He then returned, carrying it towards unknown persons within the property.
Haughie then entered and left the path and was seen brandishing a walking stick.
A neighbour reviewed the CCTV footage and contacted police.
Haughie, of Camis Eskan Wynd, pleaded guilty to brandishing a walking stick in a threatening and abusive manner. The Crown, however, accepted that he was not guilty of possession of an offensive weapon.
He was also on bail at the time.
Wright was jailed for 33 months for the four charges, with the sentence backdated to December 5 last year.
After his release, he will be on a supervised order for nine months.
Meanwhile, sentencing for Haughie was deferred until December.
