THE Great British Beach Clean is coming to Arrochar this weekend and volunteers are welcome to join in.

Join in a day of community and environmental stewardship on Saturday, September 21, starting at 9am.

The GRAB Trust and the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park Rangers are collaborating to organise the event which aims to bring together as many volunteers as possible to carry out a Marine Conservation Society Survey, clean up the coast and protect marine life.

The Marine Conservation Society data is hugely important in demonstrating the scale of the problem faced at Arrochar.

According to Beachwatch data for Arrochar Shore in 2023 the two completed surveys gave an average of 8,648 litter items per 100m found, compared to the Scotland wide average of 188 items per 100m based on 349 surveys which include the two Arrochar Shore surveys.

A school’s campaign will be launching soon throughout Glasgow and the Greater Clyde area (Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Upstream Battle and The GRAB Trust).

The survey will be carried out from 9-10am and then volunteers will work to get as much litter off the beach as possible.

Any time that volunteers can spare will be appreciated as every piece of litter removed from the beach makes a difference.

Please note that the Arrochar 10K is taking place on the same day and the Luss Estates car park (opposite the garage) will be closed for the race, so parking will be limited.

Those who would like to join in the beach clean are being asked to walk to the head of the loch; those coming from further afield are asked to take public transport or car-share where possible.

Flags will be put up to help participants find the location. Please wear sensible footwear and bring gloves; all other litter picking equipment will be provided.
