AN art club in Helensburgh is inviting businesses to lend their shop windows for a new initiative.

Helensburgh Art Club is starting a community campaign named Artful Windows to help brighten up shopfronts by displaying the work of local artists.

It was recognised that businesses in the town have empty or underused shop windows facing public spaces in prominent street locations.

The club is recruiting these businesses to provide their windows as display spaces for members` artwork.

These would be for sale by direct contact with the artist, and the works will be changed on a monthly basis, or sooner if sold.

The first windows are now in place with displays at Brunton Millers offices at 20 Colquhoun Street, and K. Spittals offices at 25 Colquhoun Square.

Iain MacLaren, president of the art club, thanked these supporters for providing the first windows and hopes that others will soon follow by getting in touch.

He said: "Artful Windows is a year round attraction for visitors and residents alike, and provides a showcase for our members` talents that enlivens otherwise dormant window spaces."

He also referred to the Club`s updated website where information regarding their various subsidised classes and events can be found.

The club is presently seeking new members and offers excellent value, providing many opportunities to learn, create and exhibit.
