COUNCIL bosses are to try to tackle the amount of rubbish going to landfill - and costing taxpayers £3 million a year.
Landfill tax costs Argyll and Bute Council millions from the budget and the local authority wants to promote more reduce, re-use and recycling to protect services.
Council chiefs say they will be writing to residents who have second general waste green bins at home to check if they are still needed.
Emails and letters will be sent out in the coming months asking to complete a short form about whether they qualified for a second green general waste bin.
Residents are eligible if they have five or more people in a household or if someone has a medical condition meaning more waste is generated.
Second blue bins for recycling plastic, paper and other items are available free to households.
