A man who shouted, kicked and banged a door in the town told police it was "silliness".

Reece Fenwick, of Buchanan Road, Helensburgh, previously pleaded guilty to acting in an aggressive manner, repeatedly shouting, kicking and banging on a door and causing damage to it.

The incident happened on June 5 this year at another property in Buchanan Road. It was aggravated by being against a partner or an ex.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court was told on August 6 how around 10.15pm, police were contacted and there was a report Fenwick was kicking the door.

A witness thought he was going to "boot the door in". When officers arrived they found him at the bottom of the close, intoxicated. A male had been heard shouting and trying to gain access to the property.

The ex-partner of the accused said she heard shouting and banging at the door, and damage was seen to the close door.

When police cautioned and charged 33-year-old Fenwick, he replied: "Silliness."

Defence solicitor Stephen McGuire said: "Silliness probably sums it up."

He said his client had been avoiding alcohol for a number of months but drank on the evening of the incident.

"He was kicking the common close door," said the lawyer. "He fell against it causing damage. He should not have been there in that state at all."

Mr McGuire said his client was nearing the end of a community payback order (CPO) and hoped this incident was "a blip".

"His behaviour that night was just outrageous," he added.

Sheriff Lorna Anderson imposed a new CPO with social work supervision for six months. He must also do 60 hours of unpaid work within that time.
