What should have been a "pleasant" camping trip descended into a threat to drown a partner, a court has heared.

David Ferris, 44, previously pleaded guilty to acting in an aggressive manner, shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence to his partner.

The crime, between April 27 and 28 this year, was aggravated by being against a partner or ex.

At sentencing on August 6, Dumbarton Sheriff Court was told Ferris and his partner had been in a relationship for about 10 months and went to Luss Camp Site Around 11.30pm, witnesses heard an argument in a tent.

Ferris, of Shells Road, Kirkintilloch, was heard saying: "If you don't pack it in, I'll punch the f*** out of you and I'll drown you."

He also said: "I'm going to punch your c*** in."

Police arrived at 1.30am and noted both parties had been drinking.

Defence solicitor Brian McGuire said: "What should have been a pleasant experience between parties turned into this."

He said his client had a difficulty with drink and had immediately stopped taking alcohol after this.

"So some good has come of that," he said. "He acknowledges the situation and has taken steps to try to address this."

Sheriff Lorna Anderson said: "I'm in no way minimising what happened. The courts take this type of offending very seriously. It has a devastating impact on families.

"You don't have a record at all for this type of offending. I would order you to be mindful of how you approach and deal with your partner."

She deferred sentence for six months Ferris to be of good behaviour.
