A HELENSBURGH man has been warned he faces a lengthy period in jail after his violent behaviour was captured on a doorbell camera.
Paul Wright appeared from custody last week to plead guilty to a number of charges stemming from an incident in the town late last year.
After being arrested, the 38-year-old hurled racist abuse at a police officer.
Sean Haughie, 22, also admitted his role in the incident in the town's Williamson Drive in December.
Dumbarton Sheriff Court was told on August 7 that the entire incident was caught on a Ring doorbell.
Fiscal depute Rebecca Reid said around 6.40pm on December 4, 2023, Wright and Haughie were seen walking out the garden path of a property in the street.
A woman could be heard shouting both of their names.
Wright entered and then left the path carrying what appears to be a large wooden stick. He then returned, carrying it towards unknown persons within the property.
Haughie then entered and left the path and was seen brandishing a walking stick towards unknown persons.
A neighbour reviewed the CCTV footage and contacted police.
Officers traced both men and when arrested, Wright said: "See you, ya Asian, you're a bam. You're going to get it, and I'm gonnae hurt you if you try and arrest me."
Police had to take him to the ground to arrest him and while there, he spat at one of the officers, with it landing on the ground.
When he was taken to Clydebank police office, Wright said, "F*** you big robo cop" and "baldy b******s".
Wright pleaded guilty to being in possession of an offensive weapon and to uttering threatening and racist remarks.
He also admitted assaulting a police officer by spitting at her, and uttering obscene remarks at the police station.
He had been on two bail orders at the time, one of them issued just three days before his Williamson Drive crimes.
The Crown accepted he was not guilty of brandishing the weapon, not guilty to uttering threatening and abusive remarks in Williamson Drive, and to resisting arrest and struggling with officers.
Haughie, of Camis Eskin Wynd, Helensburgh, pleaded guilty to brandishing a walking stick in a threatening and abusive manner. The Crown, however, accepted he was not guilty of possesion of an offensive weapon.
He was also on bail at the time.
Sheriff William Gallacher said Wright's "despicable behaviour" would result in him being handed "a lengthy custodial sentence".
"His behaviour is just vile," he said of Wright.
Referring to Haughie, the sheriff said: "I don't know enough about Mr Haughie. It's possible he may not find himself in the same category at all."
He told Wright: "I'm horrified by your behaviour."
He said the 38-year-old could face a supervised release after time in jail, or an extended sentence.
The pair will return for sentencing on September 17 once background reports are prepared.
Wright, who was described in court papers as an inmate at Greenock prison, had been attacked days before this incident with a machete.
The man responsible, Connor Taylor, pleaded guilty to the machete attack at a separate hearing the day before Wright and Haughie appeared in the dock.
