ADVENTUROUS Helensburgh and Lomond residents are being encouraged to hit the heights later this month for a leading chest and stroke charity.

The Arrochar Alps Challenge will see keen fundraisers scale the bonnie summits of Beinn Narnain, Beinn Ime and the Cobbler on Saturday, August 24.

Organised by Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (CHSS), the event is split into three categories – one, two or three peaks.

Each group will be led by an experienced team of mountain guides from Sport Ecosse and for the three peaks will cover 11 miles, with a total of 6,250ft.

The two peaks will miss out Ben Ime, covering eight miles with 4,330ft gained, and the one-peak event will concentrate on The Cobbler only with six miles and 2,919ft gained.

It is the ideal challenge for both beginners and experienced hillwalkers.

Louise MacLeod, the charity's community events and corporate fundraiser, said: “This is the first time we’ve held this challenge for CHSS.

“We will all set off as one but there will be people who are faster than others and we’ve got all ages and abilities joining us. It’s sure to be a great challenge because it’s a beautiful part of the country and there will be some amazing scenery to enjoy across the day.

"It’s a big challenge and taking on all three in one day is an impressive feat. The majority of people are taking on all three which is a big challenge.

“Team spirit will help people and there will be a lot of support on the day. We will provide all the support you need to help you meet and beat your fundraising goal.”

Participants are asked to raise a minimum of £200 sponsorship to take part in the event.

People who wish to take part in the event must register in advance online on their website at chss.org.uk/supportus/fundraise-for-us/events/arrochar-alps-challenge.
