MORE than 100 of our best friends competed at the weekend to be crowned as Helensburgh's perfect pooches.
The Helensburgh Dog Show and Gala Day was hailed a woofing success by organisers who put on the show in aid of the town's Christmas lights fund-raising.
A total of 111 dogs entered the Colquhoun Square competition on a sunny Saturday with a number of winners named across different categories.
Top prize of Best in Show went to Otto, a whippet from the Motts family, who was also the top sporting star.
Vivien Dance, from the Helensburgh Festive Lighting Charitable Trust, told the Advertiser: "What a fantastic day we had on Saturday.
"Thank you to everyone who supported our Christmas Lights fundraiser, it was certainly 'pawsome' as our Paw Patrol guests confirmed.
"We had a staggering 111 dogs enter the show, and it was just tremendous. There were dogs and proud owners everywhere.
"Thank you to everyone who came down and joined in the fun and helped us to raise a substantial sum for the Christmas lights.
"A big thank you to Debbie Fleming of Townhead Farm for organising the show and to our judge from Dumbarton, Eilidh Mackenzie, for her stamina and professional approach to the judging of the eleven classes which took more than three hours to complete.
"Thanks also to Kathleen Macgregor for once again donating the plaque for Best In Show, and to our great sponsors, Helensburgh Pet Shop, for their generous and unstinting support with all the class prizes and doggy treats for all participants.
"Colquhoun Square was buzzing with people all day. We had the largest market so far this year and welcomed more than 65 traders to the event, including plenty of funfair rides to choose from as well as tasty street food.
"Thanks to all the businesses who support us, particularly Stall Hire Scotland, the Community Advertiser team and Brunton Miller.
"A special thank you to the Beacon Trust for help with all the infrastructure that is needed for the event and Helensburgh First Aiders who are on hand if needed.
"The best part of the day though was undoubtedly hearing a number of people say 'it is too hot', as we were even blessed with a sunny day. Our canine friends obviously did not want to get their fur wet when competing, so they brought a perfect day for us.
"Onwards now to Christmas lights."
