A POPULAR community radio station is set to be available on DAB digital radio in Helensburgh from later this week.

Lomond Radio was created by a group of friends as an online station at the beginning of the Covid pandemic, offering support to their local communities, primarily in Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven.

It's currently available in Helensburgh online at lomondradio.co.uk, on mobile apps and via smart speakers.

The station has been broadcasting on DAB across Glasgow since March, but from Thursday, August 1 onwards, listeners will be able to hear the station on DAB in Helensburgh, Dumbarton and the Vale, as well as across the Firth of Clyde in Greenock and Dunoon, using new transmitters in Langbank, Dunoon and Gourock.

It's also a regular attendee at community events in Helensburgh, most recently at the Midsummer Magic event in Colquhoun Square in June, organised by the team behind the Helensburgh Winter Festival and Christmas Town programmes.

Run entirely by volunteers and broadcasting from a state-of-the-art studio at Strathleven House in Dumbarton, the station supports local bands and artists with shows such as Talent Spotlight and Fresh Sounds and provides a voice for local charities and voluntary organisations.

Its website currently lists more than 40 volunteer presenters and contributors.

Alan Caldwell, Lomond Radio's director and chairman, said: “We’ve been working to bring Lomond Radio on DAB Digital Radio to the local area for some time now and delighted to be able to confirm that as from Thursday, August 1, you’ll be able to hear us on DAB Digital Radio across the local area and stay listening as you travel across Glasgow.”

Director Paul Lucas added: “It’s another exciting development in the Lomond Radio journey.

"We have an amazing team of volunteers producing fantastic local content which you’ll now be able to enjoy in the car or at home on your DAB radio."
