A special evening cruise on the iconic Waverley paddle steamer is set to cast off next week to raise funds to keep the famous ship going.
The Waverley will sail in a "one-off" from Kilcreggan up Loch Long and Loch Goil to Lochgoilhead in the fund-raiser.
The Paddle Steamer Preservation Society (PSPS) has arranged the evening cruise to help meet the cost of next winter's refurbishment programme.
The Waverley has already welcomed more than 75,000 journeys in the 2024 season so far, as well the prestigious title as National Historic Ships UK Flagship of the Year.
Allan Smith, vice chairman for the Scottish Branch of the PSPS, said: “It has been many years since Waverley last offered an evening cruise from Kilcreggan, and I hope this sailing will prove popular again with locals and visitors alike.
"Thanks to those who have supported evening cruises in previous years the Society has been able to support several refurbishment projects including a new radar and improvements in the Dining Saloon.”
He added: "Waverley’s 2023 season saw the highest number of passenger journeys recorded in over twenty years and it is hoped that she will have another successful season this year.
“2024 also marks the 50th anniversary since the ship was famously gifted to the society for £1 and I am proud that the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society is once again able to offer support, and at the same time give local communities the chance to enjoy the stunning Clyde coast from a vantage point that can’t be had anywhere else.
"In recognition of the sale of Waverley for £1 in 1974, all children sail for just £1 in 2024. This includes our evening charter and I hope that many younger members of our communities will join us to experience the Firth of Clyde by paddle steamer.”
Tickets for the evening cruise leaving Kilcreggan at 7.40pm on Wednesday. July 31, can be purchased at waverleyexcursions.co.uk or by calling 0141 243 2224.
Catering facilities will be open during the cruise, and there will be live music in the main lounge.
Tickets cost £35 for adults and £1 for children aged five to 16. They can also be purchased on board on the evening, subject to availability.
