Crews at the Helensburgh lifeboat were called to reports of a microlight aircraft or paraglider ditched into the River Clyde.
The RNLI lifeboat was called out from Rhu Marina on Monday, July 15, at 9.18pm by HM Coastguard.
The team reached the scene eight minutes later, between the Sugarboat and Greenock, to search the water.
Instead a large number of pink deflated balloons were recovered from the area.
