A SERVICE to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings is to be held in Helensburgh next week.
A ceremony and service of remembrance will take place at the war memorial in Hermitage Park on June 6.
The Normandy landings on June 6, 1944 saw the largest seaborne invasion in history as the Allies pushed back onto mainland Europe during the Second World War.
Services will be held around the globe to mark the significant anniversary.
In Helensburgh, the public can gather at the Memorial Gates by 10.40am with the Last Post and official silence to be held at 11am.
Wreaths will be laid at the memorial afterwards with a piper playing The Flowers of the Forest.
The event is being organised by the Helensburgh and District Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland and the West of Scotland Submariners Association, in conjunction with HMNB Clyde.
D-Day veterans will be particularly welcome as guests of honour, but organisers have not yet made contact with any who might be able to attend.
Family and friends of veterans are also invited to gather and share stories and find connections.
