One of Scotland's leading musical groups is to make a welcome return to Helensburgh next month.

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO) is going on the road this summer with a programme of classics including Elgar, Schumann and Beethoven.

Principal conductor Maxim Emelyanychev brings the SCO to Helensburgh's Victoria Halls on July 3 as part of the group's 45th Scotland-wide summer tour.

The SCO have a variety of different concerts around the country with different pieces and musicians depending on venues and dates between June and September.

Their Helensburgh show is one of only three in the orchestra's 'Summer Classics' programme, with works by Elgar, Schumann and Beethoven, before they move to Blair Atholl and Kinlochleven during the first week in July.

Helensburgh Advertiser:

The concert opens with Elgar's Serenade for Strings, followed by Schumann's Cello Concerto with principal cellist Phillip Higham as soloist, and finally Beethoven's Symphony No 7.

This anniversary tour brings top conductors and soloists to more than 20 more remote Scottish venues, from Stranraer to Thurso and many in between.

Gavin Reid, chief executive of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra: “As we continue to mark our 50th anniversary this year, we are so excited once again to be off on a tour across the length and breadth of Scotland to share the joy of live music-making.

"With Maxim Emelyanychev and many of our own players at the helm, it’s fitting that our 45th Summer Tour showcases more than ever the sheer range of what the SCO has to offer audiences, wherever and whoever they are.

"We look forward to seeing you there."
