From next week, patients at Millig Practice in Helensburgh will be able to access more appointments with GPs and nurses.
Changes to the appointment system mean there will be more appointments for patients 'on the day' than previously available.
Routine appointments and pre bookable appointments via the practice website will also still be available for all.
Patients will be asked by the trained care navigators to discuss what their medical issue is, as patients may be asked to visit a pharmacy, optician or other healthcare setting to ensure efficient access to care.
Dr Lizzie Kershaw-Yates, GP partner, said: "Your local surgery is under significant pressures from demand and we are trying to serve as many people as possible in the safest way.
"Staff are under increasing pressure and there are a finite number of appointments that it is safe for our clinicians to see during the day.
"Recently the BMA has issued guidance that we should limit the number of patient contacts, to remain clinically safe.
"Patients should call at 8am if they feel unwell to discuss with a care navigator if their problem is best served with a GP, Nurse, or outwith the practice such as a pharmacy.
"Patients should be aware there will no longer be an emergency GP available - as all of our staff will be providing routine and on the day appointments.
"This means that if you call later in the day and you feel it is an emergency you will be signposted to other sectors.
"In the event of it not being an emergency you will be asked to phone back the next day.
"This change will result many more appointments being made available for on the day and pre bookable appointments."
