A group set up to promote a railway line which runs through Helensburgh is to hold their upcoming meeting in the town.
The Friends of the West Highland Lines will host their next annual general meeting on Friday, May 10 in Helensburgh’s Commodore Hotel.
Liam Sumpter, the managing director of Network Rail Scotland, will give a talk at 11.45am on the line and Network Rail's recent, and future plans for, improvements.
The infrastructure company began work in January on extending platforms at eight stations along the route, including Helensburgh Upper, Garelochhead, Arrochar & Tarbet and Ardlui, as part of a £1.7m investment programme to allow the stations to accommodate longer trains.
The work is planned to be complete by the end of this summer.
The company also carried out refurbishment work in March on a viaduct on Rannoch Moor which saw the line between Crianlarich and Fort William shut for eight days.
The Friends of the West Highland Lines promote the development of train services through the West Highlands Lines, campaigning for better quality trains, more frequent services, through ticketing and reliable connections with ferries and local buses.
The line runs through a number of stations including Helensburgh Upper, Arrochar and Tarbet, Garelochhead, and Ardlui.
More information on the group is available on their website: www.westhighlandline.org.uk.
