Argyll and Bute's most popular baby names of 2023 have been revealed.

Archie was determined the number one choice for a boy's name, while Maisie, Millie and Isla tied in the popularity stakes for girls' names.

Other common names included Noah, Theo, and Finn alongside Ivy, Ada and Freya.

According to the National Records of Scotland, Isla was also the most popular girl’s name Scotland-wide, although Archie only ranked ninth in the Scottish top 10.

Luca was the most popular boy’s name in Scotland. With 344 baby boys named Luca, it climbed four places from the previous year.

For the first time since 1996, Jack was not in the top three names for boys, this year coming in fourth.

Meanwhile, Olivia was pushed out of the top spot in the girls' list in Scotland by Isla, which last took the top spot in 2020. Freya came in third.

The number of boys born in Argyll and Bute in 2023 outnumbered girls by two to one, 130 boys and 61 girls.

Councillor Mark Irvine, policy lead for community planning and corporate services, said: “Choosing a special name for a child is one of the many joys of welcoming them into the family.

"Our registrars recognise this by offering naming ceremonies. This is a celebration of family and life and brings together friends and relatives to enjoy the announcement of the name and why it was chosen.

“If your baby is due this year, or you have a child of any age for whom you would like to arrange a naming ceremony, you can find out more information on Argyll and Bute Council's website."
