A WHALE has been spotted in lower Loch Long - sparking a warning to mariners on the Clyde.
The sighting was reported to the King's Harbour Master Clyde (KHM), the statutory harbour authority for the Gareloch and Loch Long, on Monday.
The KHM has warned mariners to proceed with caution in the area and to report any sightings to them.
The report read: "Mariners are advised that a whale has been sighted in lower Loch Long on 29 Apr 24, in position: 56˚03’.0N 004˚54’.0W.
"Mariners are requested to navigate with caution in this area and report any sightings of the whale to KHM Harbour Control on VHF Ch73."
Alternatively, sightings can be reported to KHM Clyde Harbour Control on 01436 674321 (option 1, extension 3555).
No further information has been revealed on the species of whale reportedly seen in Loch Long on Monday.
Last summer the Advertiser reported on a Helensburgh sailor's close encounter with a humpback whale in Loch Long.
