THE A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful is reopening following a temporary closure due to heavy rain.
The busy road had been closed since 12pm on Wednesday, April 10, following a yellow warning for rain.
We previously reported that following a safety review last week, BEAR Scotland diverted traffic at the A83’s Rest and Be Thankful along the Old Military Road until at least Monday, April 15.
However, following a hillside inspection this morning (April 16), it has been confirmed that traffic will move back onto the A83 from 12pm.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland's North West Representative, said: “Safety is paramount and in response to the recent weather, we took proactive steps to ensure continued safe passage for all road users, keeping the A83 open.
"The trunk road is now returning to operation under traffic management and we thank everyone for their understanding. Argyll remains very much open for business.”
Last week, significant movements on the hillside following the very heavy rain brought boulders to the surface causing concern for the safety of the operation of the A83.
Over the weekend, BEAR Scotland worked to deal with the boulder risk and monitored the movement of the hillside.
