MANY of Helensburgh's young people and families have been making the most of the Easter holidays over the last couple of weeks...but who was hitting the Easter headlines in the Advertiser 15 years ago?

Our latest dip into the archives features a school concert, talented dancers, and much more - including, erm, food waste bins.

We first published these pictures in April 2009 - whose faces do you recognise in the images below?

Helensburgh Advertiser: Members of the Helensburgh Childminding Association spoke to the Advertiser about their hopes of encouraging new recruits to their ranks. The group was formed to provide support to its members on professional issues as well as allowing them to meet new friends and to promote their services to parents and carers in the area who needed flexible care for their children. Chair Miranda Graham said: “The flexibility of the association is that there is a network available so that we can cover for each other and work together as a team.”Members of the Helensburgh Childminding Association spoke to the Advertiser about their hopes of encouraging new recruits to their ranks. Helensburgh Advertiser: Helensburgh had long embraced Deborah Kerr as the town’s most celebrated film star – but our Eye on Millig columnist Donald Fullarton revealed that contrary to widespread assumptions, Deborah, whose link with the Burgh was a very short one, wasn’t even born in the town. David Bruce, chairman of the Glasgow Film Theatre and a former director of the Scottish Film Council, revealed to Donald that Deborah was actually born in Glasgow, though her parents, Captain Arthur Charles Trimmer and Kathleen Rose Trimmer, were indeed living in Helensburgh at the time. Deborah, who was nominated for six Oscars and was best known for her roles in The King and I, From Here to Eternity and An Affair To Remember, left Helensburgh with her parents at the age of three to live in Alford, Surrey.Helensburgh had long embraced Deborah Kerr as the town’s most celebrated film star – but our Eye on Millig columnist Donald Fullarton revealed that contrary to widespread assumptions, Deborah, whose link with the Burgh was a very short one, wasn’t even born in the town. Helensburgh Advertiser: We reported on a successful first few weeks for the new food waste bin collection scheme in Helensburgh and Lomond. Argyll and Bute Council revealed that there had been a 97 per cent uptake of the scheme by local residents and that the first weekly collections had begun, with the waste food being processed and turned into compost by Scottish Water at its Deerdykes Organics facility in Cumbernauld, where more than 100,000 tonnes of grass cuttings, tree trimmings and shrub prunings from five local authority areas had been turned into 50,000 tonnes of compost since the plant opened in 2006. Councillors from Helensburgh and Lomond posed with the new bins to celebrate the success of the initiative. We reported on a successful first few weeks for the new food waste bin collection scheme in Helensburgh and Lomond.
